Juanda & Patricia Commission

Another commission! This time Patricia, from Spain, asked me to do a five spread book for her that would recount key moments in her relationship with her boyfriend, Juanda.  All these little commissions are super fun and I'm so glad to be a part of them!

Fountain of Tartu Pop-Up

After my pop-up proposal, I got asked to do another pop-up.  This time, it was requested by a lovely girl named Denise in Italy.  She commissioned me to do a pop-up of her kissing her boyfriend in front of the Fountain of Tartu as a gift.  It was such a sweet idea and I had a lot of fun doing it!

All Together Now: A Tribute to The Beatles

I couldn't have been more excited when I was asked to do a piece for Gallery Nucleus' "All Together Now: A Tribute to The Beatles." I'm a huge fan of the golden oldies music - it's on in my car all the time and no, I'm not that old.  I just love the catchy tunes!  So I was super excited to get to do a piece inspired by one of the greatest bands ever!

I choose to do two pieces for the show based off their music.  To me, the lyrics to The Beatles' music have always been moving, almost like poems.  So I was inspired to do work that involved type to showcase their words.

The first piece was inspired by their song, "Here Comes the Sun".  I first heard this song my freshmen year at USC from a really great friend.  He said it was his go-to song whenever he was feeling down.

After the first piece, I started thinking about day vs night.  As I was working through the first piece, I had only Beatles music on and the song, "Imagine" came on.  I was listening and heard the lyrics, "You may say/ I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one/ I hope some day you'll join us/ And the world will be as one." The idea of 'dreamers' fit with my thoughts of creating a night image so I went with it.  This piece was also heavily inspired by Van Gogh's 'Starry Night' - must be because I just got back from Paris...

Hope you guys enjoy and can make it to this show sometime too!  Visit my Etsy shop if you're looking for these as prints!

Join Nucleus as we celebrate 50 years of the Fab Four with a tribute exhibition featuring the works of an exciting group of diverse artists who have all "come together" to honor this legendary act.

ISM 10

Back in May, I wrapped up this piece I did for ISM 10 as part of ISM: A Community Project, a non-profit arts organization.  This year, ISM celebrates 10 years of projects and publishing with a colossal gallery exhibition, a monumental book, and the announcement of the Arts Advocacy and Community Architect awards.
I was asked to be part of their 'ism' show and was told to define and illustrate a word that ended in "-ism" through the medium of their choice.  Examples were liberalism, humanism, anarchism, idealism, modernism, racism, realism.

It was a really challenging project because I didn't want to use too popular of a word that would be too obvious or simple.  As I was researching, I came across the word "Aristotelianism" - the philosophy of Aristotle.  That reminded me of one of his quotes, "The whole is greater than the sum of its parts."

After thinking of that, I starting picturing gears in my head - like how all the pieces of a watch or clock have to work together in order to function.  As a kid, I used to think there were little robots or people that lived inside objects and that's what made them work.  So I wound up creating this piece - the inside of a clock with three robots as its caretakers.

Hope you guys get a chance to drop by the show!  The exhibition is free to the public.
